Our Story
The Beginning
1926
Old Mother Hubbard was founded in 1926, but our roots extend back to 1873 as A. Hubbard & Son bakery in Gloucester, MA – makers of hard tack sea biscuits. One day, a local sailor threw a biscuit to his dog, who happily gobbled it up.
The Evolution
1961
The Old Mother Hubbard company was purchased by Jim Scott, Sr., a professional in animal nutrition with a commitment to developing highly nutritious products for animals.
The Athletic Addiction
1985
Eagle Pack® brand of dog food was developed with trainers and veterinarians to meet the intense nutritional demands of canine athletes.
The Revolution
1990s
Jim Scott, Jr., began working with a team of animal nutrition experts, veterinarians and scientists to develop the best pet food in the world that would revolutionize the pet food industry, featuring only the finest natural ingredients. The result was Wellness®.
The Natural Pioneer
1997
Wellness® brand was launched and became a pioneer in the natural dog and cat pet food category.

2000
Holistic Select® was developed to provide dogs with digestive health support and balanced nutrition.
Protein Focused Nutrition
2007
Through thoughtful innovation, the Wellness® brand launched the Wellness CORE® sub-brand of higher protein natural pet foods and treats.
The Raw Convenience
2016
Sojos® brand, along with the South St. Paul manufacturing facility, joined the family, offering the shelf-stable convenience of kibble with the unsurpassed nutrition of real, raw food.
The Doggie Dentist
2017
WHIMZEES® brand of all-natural dog dental chews, as well as the manufacturing facility in Veendam, Netherlands, joined the family to bring out the best in your pet’s smile and overall dental health.
